Team Bonding Games that Strengthens Trust
Each functional team must be bonded with trust to know when and how to rely on one another to succeed and maximize their own potential.
What’s better than games to lighten up the usually tensed and awkward mood and have fun together?
Once the first step of breaking the ice is completed, the following steps about building trust can be attained with the game’s objectives catered to your team’s needs.

1. What Role Suits You?

1. Prepare a set of fictional scenarios. (For e.g. Everyone received a command from your King to save your country from a sudden attack of the opposing country.)

 

1. Using your set scenario, write down a list of possible roles in the team. (For e.g. the King, Army Commander, Knights, Spies, Ambassadors, Ministers, or even just Villagers in your country.)

 

1. Label each participant name separately on a piece of paper, fold them and mix them in a container.

 

1. Allow each person of your team to choose a name. (They are allowed to choose another name when their own name is selected)

 

1. With their selected name, they will then choose a role that they think is suitable for the person.

 

1. After choosing a role for them, allow each person to present the person’s role that they have chosen for them and explain their reasons behind choosing it.

Tools: -
Purpose: Allowing the team to know each other’s strengths and learn to trust the person for their strengths which at the same time helps the team build confidence and understanding of one another.

1. Lead the Blind Mice

1. Set up an obstacle course. E.g. The obstacles could encompass chairs and tables with taped ropes to form maze-like routes.

1. The employees will be split into teams and from the team, a leader will be chosen.

1. Each team will take turns to enter the obstacle course. The team members will be blind folded and form a human train; standing one behind another at the starting point of the obstacle course.

 

1. The leader will give instructions and guide the team to avoid obstacles and cross the routes safely.

 

1. The fastest team to finish the obstacle course together with all its team members will win the game

Tools: Equipment for obstacle course, and a timer to start and stop the time of each team.
Purpose: To learn to trust the leader’s instructions and guidance and also the team member in front of them to build comradery. Leader can learn to give precise instructions and leadership skills.

2. Double Whacko – Memorize Everyone’s Name

​

1. In the gathering, allow time for everyone to introduce their names. And after the introduction, tell them to remember one another’s names before the game proceed.

 

1. Sequentially, label each participant ‘A’ or ‘B’.

 

1. The ‘A’s will form a circle and sit down, while each ‘B’ will stand behind an ‘A’. Note: there cannot be more than one ‘B’ behind an ‘A’.

 

1. The member without a partner will be the whacker, and will stand in the middle of the circle formed by the ‘A’s.

 

1. The game will begin with a ‘B’ calling out a name of an ‘A’ that they are not defending (the one in front of them is the ‘A’ that the ‘B’ is defending).

 

1. Every ‘B’s is to defend their own ‘A’s from being whacked by the whacker. The ‘B’ can defend by calling out names of the other ‘A’s before the whacker hits their ‘A’.

 

1. The Whacker’s role will be to listen the name of the ‘A’ being called and hit the correct ‘A’, before their ‘B’ can counter with another ‘A’ name.

 

1. Once the ‘A’ is hit before another ‘A’ name is called out, the ‘A’ that was attacked will now become the whacker. The original ‘B’, will now be the new ‘A’. And the original Whacker will now be the new ‘B’.

 

1. The game can continue for about 15 to 20mins.

Tools: A rolled up newspaper for the whacker to hit.
Purpose: For ‘A’s to trust ‘B’s to defend for them. ‘B’s to trust ‘A’s support to alert them when their name is being called. Also develops the reaction speed and memory of both the whacker and the ‘B’s.
