Perfume personality & popular scent type

Most people will agree that choosing a fragrance is very difficult. Either buying or making, process seems equally difficult. So we ask you to start our perfume making journey by taking a perfume personality test and matching the fragrance oils to the results.

While each human is blessed with unique personality, most tests will try some form of generalised parameters. Since our intention is to find a starting point of your scent making journey, we have divided the perfume personality results into 5 sections.

The five most popular types of scents or perfume personalities that we use are:

Citrus:
Lemon, Persian lime, Mandarin orange, Tangerine, Bitter orange, Sweet orange, Pomelo.... you name it ..... and you can easily remember it's delicious fragrance. The citrus genre, unlike others, happens to be much more self-explanatory. As you’d expect, this fragrance family consists of variety of citrus fruits, with oils usually extracted from their peels. There are, of course synthetic citrus materials too, which can be used to create vivid, naturalistic representations of citrus fruit and also add citrus smells which are not found in nature. Citruses are usually volatile and evaporate quickly bringing vibrancy and impact on the first spray.

Capturing the bright, sunshine, happy essence of citrus is a challenge because it often results in something that smells more like kitchen soap than fresh-squeezed lemonade. But we will work with you so we together can get an amazing citrus top as a start of your perfume.

Fresh or Ocean: A scent for you if you love the smell of everything clean - clean beach air, clean cloths, fresh shower, ocean, mountain air, water and well.... you can imagine the rest! It can be considered as a relatively new family of fragrance.

Mostly oceanic aromas are enriched with spice aromas or a refreshing citrus aroma. That is why fragrances in this category are especially popular in spring and summer, when you want to bring home a feeling of freshness, lightness, cleanliness and romance.

Floral: Perhaps the most popular type of scent in feminine context is floral scents. This fragrance category includes fragrances that consist of floral scents such as magnolia, lavender, mimosa, rose, orchid, lily of the valley, jasmine, lily and other fragrant flowers. For masculine scents neroli and lavender is the most common choice and are usually considered as add-on to citrus & spices.
Floral types of fragrances for men are mild may seem to resemble warm seasons, holidays and travel.

Chypre or Woody:
Chypre family of fragrances are characterised by aromas of earth, moss, oak, cedar, patchouli, citrus and bergamot. The name Chypre means Cyprus in French. Chypre-type aromas are favoured by both women and men. The modern flavours of chypre are infused with  variety of scent notes, such as floral & fruity. For example, the heavier odours of cedar or oak are perfectly attenuated by the citrus aromas, which make it often difficult to describe. These are rich and multilayered scents, where you will first feel the citrus freshness, but gradually smell the heavier notes. Often these scents are called universal because they have no clear distinction between masculine or feminine scents. These scents are easily recognisable by their warm aroma, which overlaps with citrus notes. These scents are versatile in that they are suitable for all seasons of the year.
Woody: Woody tends to be the parent family of Chypre in our opinion. How to describe it....Go into the woods and find all the notes of aroma that intertwine in the family of woody scents. It has warm, rich and slightly heavy aromas, with a predominance of sandalwood and cedar, sometimes with patchouli. This type of fragrance is currently one of the most popular and the trend will not change in the coming years. These scents can be described as warm scents, which makes them particularly suitable for winter. Hoping you know better what each type of fragrance is, would make it easier to choose the fragrance. But when choosing a fragrance, it's important to keep in mind that sometimes it is worth knowing your taste and preference and then enjoy the permutation and combinations of the fragrances which can surprise you with its approach!

Fougere & Oriental:
Fougere: This name is derived from French and means a fern. It is an intriguing family of scents based on ferns and lavender. The fragrances of this family are most popular among men's perfumes. These scents can be described as earthy as their most common notes are plants and trees.
These scents are also not very seasonal, and most often smell at home in both winter and summer.
Oriental:If flower-type scents are light and refreshing, the opposite is true of oriental scents. This is where the most luxurious spices meet, which enchants and smells a bit magical. The most popular scents are vanilla, sandalwood, cinnamon, honey, amber, musk, nutmeg, carnation, incense, ginger, and more. Oriental scents are usually exquisite, spicy or very sweet, as we will almost always find exotic spices in them. The scents of this fragrance-type home can be called gourmet, luxurious and solid. Often these scents will be enjoyed by those who are interested in art and enjoy unique, unique items, or cannot imagine leisure without attending exhibitions, theatre or other cultural events.
