Many of us will resume work at some point in time, as the covid-19 situation eases, while some are even working throughout this Covid-19 period, in the frontlines.
Therefore, even though many of the following measures may seem familiar to you, it is still important to reiterate the necessary measures required to fight this virus together.
We have been very well informed that face mask is necessary protection against Covid- 19 as it is known that this disease can be transmitted via water droplets from coughing or sneezing.
According to the Ministry of Health (MOH), it is also made compulsory to wear face mask during your work; whether you are interacting with people in your workplace or not. This includes the time when you are walking or taking public transport to work as well (Cheng, I., 2020).
2. Scrub Clean
Hand sanitizers could help to a certain extent, but washing your hands with soaps are confirmed to be the most effective way to kill Covid-19 virus.
If you touch a contaminated area, for example, the lift buttons or door knobs that are commonly touched by people, it is wise to clean your hands again. Try not to touch your nose, mouth eyes as they are readily transmitted through these areas as well.
Therefore, it is always good to wash your hands frequently to prevent and reduce any risk of catching Covid-19.
3. Temperature Check
This measure is helps to sieve out people who are feverish and disallow them from entering premises that are crowded with humans, as fever is one of the Covid-19 symptoms.
However, once you are feel sick, please visit the doctor, stay home after getting your medication and do not force yourself to work for the sake of your own and your colleagues’ health.
4. Social Distancing
Because there are also risk of transmission when people interact and are close to one another, stricter rules should be set to ensure every employee are sitting at least a seat apart from one another.
Company meetings, events and meals together should also limit to only when it is necessary. If such plans are not vital and do not have to meet face-to-face, they should all be done via online platforms (e.g. Zoom, Emails or Text Messages).
Even for work, if it is not vital to be in the office, employees should be allowed to complete their tasks in the safety of their homes.
5. Workplace Hygiene
There will be people that come and go in a company, and it does not limit to just people working in the organizations; clients, and outside visitors may also enter and leave this premises.
Therefore, to ensure every area safe to work in, it is good practice to predict and identify all hygiene measures to take and clean up the premises before everyone start to resume working.
Some examples to take note will be to ensure toilets, common resting areas (pantry, lobby), doors (even door knobs), lifts, and all offices and rooms are cleaned as thoroughly as possible.
6. Personal Belonging
Items such as your phones, keys, bags and laptops are items we may frequently come in contact with. Therefore, all the more we should take caution and clean them as often as possible.
If your electronic devices are not waterproof, you can add a small drop of soap on a piece of tissue and wipe them with it. After cleaning them with soap, do not forget to wipe them clean again with a damp cloth.
After restricting or social contact with our friends, partners and colleagues for the sake of our safety, we have now integrated further into the virtual reality world for social interaction and communication. However, there are reports showing spikes in the number of people showing anxiety and depressive symptoms, even while possessing these readily available network devices.
I am not encouraging frequent meet ups especially during this Covid-19 period, but limited and healthy dose of time allocated to hang out and socialize can be healthy for us.
While also sticking to the safety rules of this Covid-19 period, there is a Perfume Workshop that is still available in this covid-19 period. Their fragrances are very good for soothing moods and you can even personalize your very own one. If you are interested to find out more, I have listed their website down below. Do note that there is a restriction of only 5-pax per session during the workshop.

Factors to Consider Before Buying a Perfume
More often than not, it is better to be prepared with a mental list of what to consider before your search for the perfect perfume.
Other than the pricing budget you set for yourself, below are some guidelines you can follow to equip yourself better and make this preparation slightly easier to complete.
1. Uniquely Me
Your skin odor - Despite how odorless we think we are, each individual has their very own unique body odor. Most of the time, our noses are just accustomed to our own scent, therefore, we could not detect it.
Diet, gender, health, medication, and bacterial activity on skin affects our body odor, giving each individual their own unique scent.
Experiments conducted and showed that how well our body odors mix with the perfume affects our perception and preference for it. More information can be found in the research paper, “Psychology of Fragrance Use” by P Lenochová (Lenochová et al., 2012).
The greater extent the fragrance is perceived to smell good on your skin, the greater indication that the perfume complements with your body odor, and the higher preference to the perfume you will be.
Hence, it is highly recommended to try it out on your skin first, before buying it off from the shelf.
Fragrances are volatile substances. Smelling a fragrance for the first 5 to 10mins and after 30mins does make a difference. Therefore, it is wise to wait for at least 20 to 30 minutes before making a decisive purchase.
Typically, this phenomenon can be explained by the differing volatility of the diverse fragrances in a perfume - Where each fragrance can be generally classified into Top, Middle and Base notes (Scampini, 2019; S Vankar, 2004).
Top notes, usually the Citrus or Fresh scents, have the highest volatility and give the perfume its initial dispersive boost. Such notes are the scents we smell first and they generally last for about 5 to 10 mins.
Followed by the Middle notes such as floral scents, which can be detected after the top notes are dispersed and can last for about 30 mins.
Lastly, we have the base notes - Woody or Oriental notes. They have the least volatility ability, and are the most long-lasting ones of the group. Its fragrance can last up to 2 hours depending on the temperature and humidity of the environment.
Hence, you can take your time to pick a perfume you like. What’s best always requires patience and perseverance to obtain it.
Scents in fragrances can do wonders to your well-being. Each fragrance ingredient in your perfume can produce different kinds of benefits to its user and it is up to the user to select what ingredient meets their needs.

Recorded as one of the most diverse flowering plants, orchids have as numerous as 25,000 different species (Rainforest Alliance. 2012). Many of these enrapturing orchid fragrances are captured, with their scent formulated and incorporated in perfumes.
However one dilemma to choose which orchid fragrances to start, is the diversified choices.
Therefore, to support your journey in seeking out your favourite orchid fragrance, we have crafted a list of popular orchid fragrances.
Tearing down the cliche impression of how flowers should only smell floral, is this orchid.
Its charm is in its powerful citrus scent. Its aroma refreshes and enlivens the fragrance formula, invigorating the air with its energy and zest (Rigy, R., 2017).
This scent is popular among people who prefer a more outdoorsy and active lifestyle or some who do not want their perfume to smell too overwhelmingly sweet.
Highly appreciated for its Jasmine-like scent, this fragrance possesses a hearty and fragrant scent that clings strongly to its surrounding.
Like jasmine fragrance, this orchid’s aroma has a calming property to soothe restlessness and would be considered a great sedative aroma (Healthline. 2018).
If you do find this fragrance compelling, you may have been beguiled by its aphrodisiac effect. When applied on, its scent enhances one’s appeal, seemingly raising one’s level of attractiveness (Healthline. 2018).
Its musky aroma is what helps this flower gain its crown of popularity. One could find these in Malaysia, Vietnam and Borneo, and they usually thrive on coastal rocks and scrubs.
Musk fragrances are often considered associated with the term exotic and sensual due to its relation to Egyptian perfumes used since the ancient past.
In perfumes, what you smell and know as musk is often in its diluted form. Its fragrance is described as soft and clean. Because in greater concentration, musks are often not as pleasant to your noses and tend to be too overwhelming and strong-smelling (EMMANUELLE, E., 2018).
Here’s a tasty smelling orchid with a sweet and spicy cinnamon-like scent. Perfuming its scent and presence like a bakery treat - endearing and tempting.
Based on the Healthline newsletter, the spicy-sweet cinnamon scent not only enhances mood with its delectable aroma, but it also claims to purify its surrounding air with its antibacterial properties (Healthline. 2019).
Sweet, compelling scent of this orchid fragrance also contains aphrodisiac effects, stirring up the feeling of joy while boosting the attractiveness of its bearer (Keville, K., 2019).
Vanilla planifolia Jacks. ex Andrews
Known for its vanilla scent, this orchid is a sweet-smelling flower that provides a lovely and strong aroma.
Many are fond of this scent due to its pleasant familiarity towards treats and rewards, and evokes memories of childhood ice-cream and desserts.
Research has been studied by Kate Fox, Director of Social Issues Research Centre and have proven the powers of vanilla fragrances, suggesting its aid in our cognitive ability for recollection and memory (Fox, K., 2020).
In psychology, it is also proven to aid in increasing positive feelings and has been universally regarded as pleasant for decades.
Lastly, I invite you to marvel at this orchid fragrance here where it possesses a wonderful and interesting mix of citrus and spice, topping off with nuances of menthol.
A fragranzing oozing with vitality, packing a punch with its spicy scent while topping it off with a zesty lime scent. Freshness resembling menthol further livens up the overall fragrance that likens the coolness after a shower.
A unique and characteristic fragrance that is perfect for one who ventures outside of conventional fragrances.
Selecting your favourite fragrance can be a daunting task if we do not know where to start, especially since we are spoilt for choice with such a diverse species.
So we hope that you orchid lovers would find this helpful to start your search in your perfect orchid fragrance.

Psychology of buying a perfume
You should buy a perfume the way it smells, but a whole lot of other factors end up affecting your purchase decisions. We hope our writeup will help you steer clear of the marketing tricks and find a perfume you love.
Perfume marketing is an art that appeals our deepest emotions and it is indeed hard to market a perfume. What would you do to sell a product that cannot be described with the existing media?
There are a methods that almost all fragrance brands use. They have been using it for a very long time and it still works. If you spot these tricks, you’ll be less likely to fall prey on the pretty bottle, but containing an average scent. Before we talk about the tricks, let’s see the principles they use:
Principle 1 - Marketing agents try to paint a picture of celebrities and lifestyle associated with the perfume and also to aspired image of a lifestyle we want to associate with. The setting usually has stunning scenery or a luxurious real-estate, seduction and a lot of expensive things. Sometimes very explicit use of sex and seduction, but often subtle.
Principle 2 – Use of subtle hint and lifestyle just slightly out of your reach. Why is it slightly high above our reach? That’s because, traditional products are boring and too novel things frighten us. To sell something you have to make it familiar. This is called MAYA principle, a theory by the Mr. Raymond Loewy and means “Most Advanced, Yet Acceptable”.
Principle 3 – Since the fragrance industry cannot efficiently tell the consumer how the scent smells like. They place both new and familiar elements in the visuals of the product. They often are filled with messages that this is a good old familiar perfume, but made different and exciting.
How to make it acceptable? You have seen perfume commercials millions of times. A beautiful woman, flowy dress, a mansion, a love story. Some kind of slogan…... Sometimes you can barely tell which brand is it! But this helps in creating familiar and recognizable experience. After all, when you see it, you know it is a perfume commercial.
How to make it different? By showing the bottle. The bottle is the secret weapon of the perfume industry and often costs 4-5 times more than the liquid inside. The industry uses this to communicate that the fragrance is something amazing and different. Have you noticed, how pretty and shiny those bottles are? The colours, shapes and accessories that will surely catch the attention of the novelty seeking consumer. Every time the new launch has a new conceptual bottle, but try smelling the scent. See if the scent actually is as much of a breakthrough as the bottle?
Why do people do that? Why not let customers try and buy the scent itself?
It is because of the perfume retailing industry, which is separate from the perfume manufacturing industry. Almost all perfumes are clubbed together in one section of a giant retailer, which can be cosmetic store or a departmental store. With so many choices, which we possibly cannot smell without overwhelming our nose, our eyes will catch the most unconventional bottle.
Now when you smell it, the perfume is familiar and not a breakthrough. Why? Because of MAYA!
You saw something unusual, but now its time for something familiar. This is how you make your final purchase decision - a nice, conventional, familiar scent. Nothing new, nothing exciting. Just good old perfume.
How do you avoid it? Blind test it and see if it appeals to you. Scents should appeal to your nose and evoke happy memories because they are processed by same part of the brain.
We established this place, so you can express yourself using Aromas.
